St. Basil's Catherdral - This photo does not do this stunning building justice. Click image for a full sized photo, maximise your window and maximise the photo.
Opposite the National Museum is St. Basil's Catherdral. Named after Basil the Blessed who was a very popular character.
The Catherdral was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible and completed in 1561. Legend says that Ivan had the architect blinded so
he could never create anything so magnificent that would rival St. Basil's. The catherdral was built to commemorate Ivan's
successful campaign against the Tartars in 1552. For me there is no more stunning sight in Russia than St. Basil's and it was a
real thrill to see it first hand. Bligh and Farmer are the chaps in the foreground and were by travelling partners across Russia.
