Drinking from Lake Baikal - Siberia                                                                                                                            Close Enjoying the water on a glorious day at Lake Baikal Our last stop in Russia was in the Siberian city of Irkustk. It is a melting pot where Russia meets Asia in a vibrant and busy city.
Tourists are attracted here by Lake Baikal - the oldest, deepest and largest (by volume) freshwater lake in the world. Locals like
to joke than the Lake is bigger than Belgium - which it is! The lake contains over 20% of the worlds fresh surface water and 90%
of Russia's fresh surface water. It is 636 kilometres long and 80 kilometres wide. Our visit had us walking part of the circum-Baikal
railroad with runs round the south-western edge of the lake. The water was lovely and clean and cold!
